I'd hardly call Obama a Tumblr SJW. For all of his faults and all of the decent things he's done in office, he is first and foremost a manipulator of the masses. He's making that statement strictly to make the Republicans look bad in the eyes of moderates. It's how he's won two elections.

The ruble hasn't collapse. Although, it seems counter-intuitive that one would measure Russia's economy by its currency's worth to nations it no longer trades with. It's better to consider other factors. The Russian military has been a lot more efficient since the 2008 reforms which is self-evident since Russia has actually won wars unlike the US/EU/NATO. Russia has turned every cheek trying to accommodate both the US and the EU and every time the US/EU has fucked Russia over. But the 2013/2014 coup in Kiev and the subsequent war of extermination against Russians in the Ukraine is probably the last straw. The biggest problem for the world since 1989 has been America and its puppets. I don't think anyone in their right mind would disagree with that. If Russia hadn't fucked up America's war plans in Syria then the Islamic State would be in control of all of Syria right now. You may now apologise for your ignorance and jingoistic attitude. Russia has done nothing to accommodate anyone in the Ukrainian conflict, they've broken every promise, and are still providing weapons and soldiers to Russians in Donetsk. If you don't see the pattern here, you're hopeless. This has been Russia and the Soviet Union's strategy since Lenin died. Call for peace, invade a country, deny you're invading it, then graciously accept the land that gets ceded to it by the suspiciously pro-Russian new government. The only jingoists are Russia. They've been pushing their supremacist dogma to the point of ridiculousness, and the only way to keep them from being Russians is by bringing them low and giving them a crippling defeat. So far the fact that a drunken Ukrainian rabble has stopped their drunken, drug-addicted grave robbers from conquering Donetsk pretty much says all that needs to be said about Russian military effectiveness, and hopefully will result in that crippling defeat that Russians need to learn their place. In any case the article had a few other points you should've, you know, read. I'm sorry but I need to ask. Do you legitimately believe this?
You realize having a high foreign currency reserve doesn't mean that Russia won't default, and even if it did prevent Russia from defaulting, it still doesn't solve the problem of its currency going down the tubes. A gold standard will only serve to economically isolate Russia. As for Russia's military and imperialist attitude, I call it like I see it. It's not my fault your world view is foolish and narrow.

On what? Whether a gold standard would serve to isolate Russia economically, or whether or not Russia is antagonizing Europe? Al Jazeera reports quite accurately on the conflict in the Ukraine, and as for gold standards, the disadvantages of it have been quite thoroughly discussed and proven. The fact of it is Russia started a war due to being angry at the Ukraine voting out their puppet, and that the gold standard is probably the best way you can stifle economic growth and depress an economy.
