...governments have done in recent years is shift the debates from economic liberties to social liberties. Economic liberty is a bread and butter issue. Social liberty, while necessary, is utterly irrelevant when one doesn't have economic liberty. Not only that but all of these debates add legitimacy to the idea of government. The debates are all centred around whether the government should allow us to have any sort of liberties. We're conforming to the government, instead of the other way around.
