And besides, before pictures were around, commissioning a artist was the only way to have a picture of your pooch or baby.

to be honest i made it in 2 minutes to kill the discussion about the usefulness of drawings of dogs and babies. It actually worked better than I had expected.

The only difference is that back then, people needed to pose, artists needed to work helluva lot faster, and they needed to know anatomy damn fucking well to fill in on the sketch or when the model moved from the initial position, which I suspect happened A LOT with animals and children.

Today they just take a photo and reproduce it in their media of choice.

I'd pay thousands for the first. Wouldn't pay a dime for the latter, a Photoshop filter and a printer paper is much cheaper if I want a fancy pencil/oil render of my pet's photo. But that's just my opinion.

I don't really have a picture of my dog, but I tried drawing my cockatiel some years ago:

So I made this. I was considering throwing in a few holocaust images too, then decided on crab holocaust images, then remembered I can't draw for shit so I decided against that.

Learning how to animate pixel art was a fucking mistake. The animation process of this thing was painful:

What is it supposed to be doing? Moving for the sake of moving? Acting crazy to frighten the children?

Also you are charging 8$ to apply a coloring filter on your shaded sketches? Lol

To answer both of your questions, the movement is something that was specified by the commissioner himself, as he said by his own words, a "menacing dance" of sorts-- and at the time I showed him an animation sketch concept, he said it was pretty much what he had in mind. He didn't specify why he wanted it to do a menacing dance, but my guess is that the mushroom boss in here is meant to release some spores at the player. Just a guess.

As for the monochromatic pictures, they are actually differently done. Shaded sketches on their own, while they have clean lines (or at least cleaner, compared to the more cheaper sketches), they actually have a quite basic shading. When it comes to monochromatic pictures, quite more work goes into the shading and the detailing of the picture, and the customer can get a less basic background. The $8 difference is not really just for the coloring itself, sorry for the confusion.

Now that I think about it, I specified the differences from one category to another too poorly. I'll fix it right away, thanks for the notes regarding it.

EDIT: Minor fix. The body of the mushroom seemed to lack too much depth and it was bugging the hell out of me.
