Is it the shadow or the hand? The shadow I understand if it's fucked because I had a hard time wrapping my head around it, but if it's the hand then I might need further clarification. Does it just look broken or what?

The shadow kinda looks like ghost arm growing from her armpit.

Shouldn't the war axe be lower/deeper on the harness(?) thing? Now it seems like it'd be imbalanced (too much weight to her right). And the quiver should be tilted rather than straight upwards, the arrows are easier to get and the arm movement is more natural like that.

Ah. I imagine some increased blurring of the shadow towards the end would've helped, instead of making it so crisp.
And I need to be more aware of the weight of the weapons and how they rest in the future, so that is looks more natural.

Yeah, it's supposed to be her thumb. I was kind of trying to go for a splayed look. But I guess with the perspective, I drew it so her thumb was stretched too far back.

It's broken either way, so that's something else I'll need to practice.

yeah that arm is an issue since it's slap bang in the middle of the image
her arm tapers into that really flat and short hand which looks odd
even if you just fix that the image will be a lot better

Not so much about what's natural, but what's logical and how the weapons work when not in use.
References for how quivers should rest are pretty easy to find,
not so much for battle axes, but I tried to find some to give you a possible direction to go with - if you don't mind a big design change with it (mainly the harness)
In games the models just float about, no harness or such, but the placement is logical (weapon like that is easier to equip over-shoulder when it's upside down like this) and the weight is balanced - which is why you might find useful checking these

You'd need to change it a lot to make it better for a battle axe and its weight, and to make it still have the axe easy to equip, but this should give you an idea for how to do it.
I might sketch my vision of it as well, if you'd like.

Those are pretty interesting though! The way I figured it, I supposed that she would just have to first pull the ax up and out of its sling, and then adjust her grip on it for combat.
But maybe something like this would be better?

Yeah, that looks really good to me. Maybe add one or two slightly thicker/wider straps on the front too? Maybe on the level of her armpits (and below breasts), similarly to big camping backpacks'.
I don't know how much the weight of the ax would pull the whole thing down, so I'm not certain if they'd be required though - it's just a suggestion.

I like your illustration of her equipping the ax by the way, the position and motion kinda give her more attitude

The timing needs some work; it looks like the characters are in slow motion. Nothing some frame addition/removal can't fix.

I think I enjoy painting the most.

Hand stuff aside, I think you have some issues with faces. I'm thinking about the cheek bones, nose and smile of the girl on the right. The undrside of the nose is a pig nose while the bridge of the nose is close to correct, but at a different angle. I'd reference your face in a mirror more to push for a more accurate look, and I think Ben Hatke might be a good example of an artist with a cartoonier style where the deviation from traditional portraits feels deliberate.

Nothing like moar study and practice.

Look, the quality of the pic is very good and all, but what's the point of doing a ginger farting an anorexic catman ? Why bother at all if you can't find an inspiring concept ?
