I was thinking of calling it the Second American Revolution. I mean it's technically not a revolution but neither was the first. The two situation are almost identical. Issues concerning tariffs, representation and all that crap. The so-called founding fathers of both were hypocrites, though the FARevolutionaries owned a shitload more slaves between them and the SARevolutionaries had more legal justification for their secession. They even both had an incompetent and famous general whom they idolised. Similarities are striking.

A civil war is a war that happens between two factions of one country. Seeing as this is not what happened in the American Civil War, the OP is right. It should be renamed because "civil war" is a misnomer.
I still like what a friend of mine non-sarcastically calls it - "The War of Northern Aggression". Sums up the open mindedness which is typical of the South. Friendly, welcoming people who'll do anything to help you. Just don't fuck with their guns, booze or niggers.

While it's technically correct (USA declaring war on SC, which is what technically started the whole thing) such a phrase is emotionally loaded. "Southern/Confederate Revolt/Uprising" would be better. You mean he wasn't? As far as I know he preferred to devastate the seceding states than to allow them to not collect tariffs. It takes a pretty cold-blooded individual to wage war against their own countrymen over such silly reasons like that.
