That's what he gets for having such an aversion to all things anime. Let's face it, about 90% of the con-goers are weeaboos who cling to all things anime/manga-related like flies to shit. The reason why Dobson's stuff doesn't sell it's because they simply don't find it KAWAIIDESU~ enough, and they just couldn't care less for his shitty, americanized Mario and LoZ fan art. As for the non-weeb crowd, the reason for that one is simply because his artwork is just ugly, broken and just downright visually repellent. I mean, just look at his sketch cards - these gotta have some of the ugliest color palettes I've seen. Also, his style is boring, unoriginal and bland. ut those things have already been established in the previous 539 pages of this thread.

Also, if this whole con-going/artist alley buisness is such a tiring and time and money-consuming experience, then why does he keep going to those places? Wouldn't he fair off much better doing regular commissions on deviantart? That'd work for him better, since then he wouldn't have to worry about having to give away most of his income to the people running the con.

But again, Dobson knows best amirite guys??

Since we know he hates putting effort into selling his comics, and would rather look at video games like a manchild, where's the step that shows he looks at video game panels wastes time playing on his 3DS instead of actually making good comics and developing a network?

Two comics in a row now. He's always putting peoples' hands in their pockets so he doesn't have to draw a hand or pose the arm, but it's becoming even more frequent. It's fucking terrible.

The problem with that is you don't get as much traffic as you would out on the Exhibition floor, and people going into AA usually have an idea of what they want already. If Dobson wants to make money in AA he needs to do at least 2 of these things:

1. Be a chick.
2. Draw ANYTHING on request whether it's anime or MLP or Batman, etc.
3. Have tons of prints depicting said anime, MLP, Batman, etc.
4. Be a really skillful artist with an art style that is either timeless (preferable) or currently in style.

The problem is Dobson is usually trying to sell his original stuff, his Formera and SYAC or whatever. I think he'd do better in the Small Press area or something. And even then he'd pull in a much larger crowd if his work wasn't so G rated. Kids don't even like 'safe' artwork, its only brainless parents that want something safe for their kids to read that buy that crap.

It's true. Unless you are really well known, you have to do fanart stuff to sell. I've seen shitty art being sold at AA but people gobbled it up because it was fanart. I have a friend who was on the showfloor and it is hard for them to sell original work and comics but they commission work because they are willing to do fanart and are good at it. Dobby probably thinks he will sell because he is internet famous, which means nothing to anyone especially if your style sucks.

Yeah. AA isn't like DA where everyone knows your name, so most people would see his stuff in real life and probably dislike it. It's bland, Dobson. Everything is brown or oversaturated and you pose people the same way all the time. And I know he sells mostly fanart since none of his IP is famous or memorable besides maybe Brentalfloss shit.

Who would buy a duck-butt lollipop shirt, and wear that outside of a convention? I could see people buy Brent's Cds and the musical note shirt, but even kids would make fun of you for wearing such a stupid shirt like duck-butt.

Even if he found a niche audience for his IP stuff, Patty is so half-assed Dobson would be lucky if people bought it out of pity when they see more than half of the panels weren't even filled in (didn't buyers whine that the books looked poorly made?).

Artist Alley is generally cheaper than an exhibitor/vendor table, so I assume that's why he picks those. Even at a con the size of Orlando MegaCon an AA table is only $200, so it's kind of sad that:

A) He considers the amount of money it takes to break even on an AA table to be a lot of money
B) Despite not being able to pull a profit he still refuses to do anything at all to improve his art

He never seems to make the connection between improving his work and attracting more people willing to pay for it.

That's what happens when you block people like a brat, and get cuddled by thirteen year-old kids in your pity parties. I think what's sadder is that he only goes to these things to see video game stuff rather than sell his comics. He thinks he's entitled to do whatever he wants, and every convention should give him anything (like B^Uckley). Not even the Penny Arcade guys acted like this in conventions.

That connection will never happen until:
A) Brent gets sick of his bullshit, which won't happen because Brent and Dan are manchildren like Dobson. Even if the joint comic takes Brent to the dogs, the three of them will still produce bad comics.
B) DA finally smartens up, and tells Dobson to piss off. Sadly, DA supports his antics because 9 out of 10 people on DA are like Dobson. Dobson caters to these people, and they love him in return.
C) His hambeast girlfriend is finally sick of him, but she's batshit crazy like Dobson.
D) Conventions will tell him to fuck off. He's probably not like B^Uckley at cons, so this won't happen...provided he even bothers to go to cons.

Real life doesn't work like that especially if you did nothing to earn those privileges, Dobson. For 15 years, you've whined about your life being "so shitty," dismissed opportunities to grow as an artist (entry level illustrator job), and continue to act like a hypocritical, liberal retard with your "edgy opinions" and bias love for Nintendo (unbiased my ass). You don't even help people in the field; rather discourage or exploit them for your own gain like that one person who asked for your advice, but you wanted her to get the same hate you get from your..."trolls."

I don't feel bad for a manchild who would rather play his 3DS at cons than build a social/professional network.

Like... what exactly is his collection of art when he goes to cons?
Because from what I understand he never posts art on his DA that's specifically for conventions.

Does he look at the people who make big bucks at cons?
These people do shitloads of things.
They make fanart prints, buttons, mini prints, zines, miniature comics-
Heck, they even PARTNER UP with other well known convention artists because not only do they get immense traffic, but since your with those people they actually look at your art as well and go "Hey that's not bad"

Also conventions serve the double purpose of not only selling your art, but getting to know other professionals in real life and having them on contact.
These places are literally the next Magnum Opus, outside of college where you get to connect and help/get helped by various people in your profession without going into a "sucks to be you" rivalry.

Can't blame him for not posting con art on DA, since he knows people will just tear it apart (look what happened to Adventure Time when people posted it).

Half of what you said requires Dobson to be socially competent, and be flexible with people, which he fails at (Brent has to wait for Dobson to make a comic. It's normally the other way around unless you're a very good artist...which Andrew isn't). I'll be amazed if he even sells anything else besides crappy fan art his comics (you know he's going to sell the Metroid, the MLP, and Adventure Time pictures).

The strip is just another attempt at seeking a pity party from his 13 year-old fans.
