Probably because Joseco is the type to make excessive, out of place and unnecessary cameos (like Double Rainboom), just shoe-horned in for no purpose other than to get a viewer who recognizes them to go "ZOMG IT"S DAT CHARACTER FROM DAT SHOW I LIKE ZOMG!".

At least the humanized ponies were arguably ignorable, since they aren't the same species as they are in the show they're from, but doing something like copy-pasting the girl protagonist from a Pokemon game and the leads from Totally Spies? That's crossing the fucking line.
