If that was the case, Pixar's movies would always be overlooked or snobbed by the Academy Awards. But you know that's the contrary. I can't deny that marketing helps too, especially for an extremely bland film like Cars 2, but you have to count the critical appraise that their movies receive and thus it just helps to the studio gain popularity and notoriety over the world. It is secondary if we are talking about a studio like DreamWorks, or any other third-rated animation studio that thinks making 3D animation will bring customers, like those Video Brinquedo films. This is like saying that engaging to learn art and animation is pointless. So we wouldn't have comic books or games like Team Fortress 2 as a choice of entertainment. Anyway, to don't derail the thread completely, Kuha you could try showing good examples of anatomy and examples that are not good. If those examples have comments on them, that would be better, because he would notice the critics that people give to them so he could learn to avoid certain mistakes.
>Implying Academy and Critics aren't anything other than worthless hacks Well here's the thing. Art and animation aren't pointless, but going to school for them IS. Going to school to learn computer programming is not. For the "art" aspect, you either have talent or you don't. And NO one in this thread, myself included, has an ounce of artistic talent in their entire bodies. Those rare sparkling jobs are reserved for the few, the proud, and the brave. You won't ever get one, so just forget they exist.
Another advice thread that saw its end within exhausts of crematory smokestacks. Well done, EDF. XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD Tell your friend to pick up CADD instead. Or ensure that he is enough capable of self-management to draw on a daily basis AND examine HIS mistakes.
If there weren't any artists or "hopeless idiots wasting their time", you wouldn't have video games, movies, comics, music, books, etc so SHUT THE FUCKIN SHUT UP. YOU'D BE LIKE A PURITAN. WHY WOULD ANYBODY WANT TO BE LIKE A PURITAN. SO MAD RIGHT NOW Back on topic, I'm glad you found MindCandyMan, Lurkerella. How did you find him?? I haven't been able to for such a long time...
How do you learn to draw if you have no innate talent? The same way you learn everything you have no innate ability to do: endless, trite repetition. If you try again and again and again to draw perspective, eventually you'll get how it works, provided you're not completely dumb. Draw a human body again and again, and eventually you'll be able to draw a convincing picture of a human. It's still a stupid idea, because a)why would you need to draw to become a game designer, I'm sure John Carmack is no great artist. More important is a grasp of what most people think is fun and how to implement it. I think people have no idea how little impact the visual design has on how fun a game is. Look at Skyrim, it's all cliché and ripped off from norse mythology. Still fun as hell. And b) being able to draw well and actually being an inspired artist are two different things.
