Dracula is so mainstream! Of course she meant the vampires from old folklore. You've probably never heard of them. We should beg her to give us all a lesson of what REAL vampires are all about. You know, Danish vampires, the only REAL ones.

i'd love to know what a "real" vampire is. from my understanding of vampire lore they were just walking corpses that would suck blood, one step above zombies. bram stoker just made up the rest of the shit we think of as vampire powers, and hollywood just made up even more bullshit.

If I wasn't so lazy I'd resize the "old person" drawing to use as my new avatar. It looks disgusting enough. Aside from that, her usual bout of "LOL look wat a folklore expert i am plebs" is nothing new.

There are about as many vampire myths as there are different cultrues, and then some. A lot of them are nothing more than zombies with a different name, the line between one or the other seems to be fuzzy. You could say that some creature that were categorised as "vampires" some time ago would today fall under the zombie category, mostly because the definition for zombies as we know it today didn't exist in eurocentric cultures yet. But she's too awesum to be bothered with researching culture-historical developments. Because even though there are a lot of zombie-vampires, there are also a shitload of attractive, seductive vampiry creatures in many different cultures. So shut up with your "vampires are supposed to be gross and decaying, not pretty" because there are myths for both versions.

Also, I don't know why you have to go the "old myths you probably don't know about teehee" hipster route when we have Nosferati. Those fuckers are not pretty.

And you could also turn into a vampire for a shitload of odd reasons, from being born between Christmas and New Year, if your mother looked a vampire in the eyes when she was pregnant or if some fucktard stole your shadow. You could also have your very own do-it-yourself vampire homunculus thing - the Polong. There are so many vampire myths, I really don't see why everyone who's trying to be edgy is so hung up about some vampires being sexy or glittery (other than the fact that the glittery version is incredibly badly written).

As shitty as the series got, I like how the Blade movies handled vampires. You've got the sexy, upper-class (but still evil to the core) ones like Deacon and Danica, the thuggish lower-class ones like Quinn and the Blood Pack, the ugly but still "normal" ones like Pearl and Eli, and then the Reapers, Drake, and Blade himself who are just entirely different breeds. It made the idea that there was a whole vampire history and culture just under noses feel like it had some weight.

The Fright Night remake got into this a little bit too with the mentions of different breeds of vampires. I wish more writers did this instead of just settling on all vampires being sexy or looking like Count Orlock.

Guillermo Del Toro are quite innovative in creating a totally different vampire looks and lore in his latest work The Strain.

In The Strain, vampirism is something like zombie outbreak. But more feral, intelligent, and bloody different look than traditional vampire (they suck blood with tongue like proboscis, and infection by parasitic worms that turn human into vampires). This is how they look.

Speaking of Del Toro, I'm currious on how Pacific Rim will pan out. I can already tell it's going to be a sort of Cop movie, where the older one who goes by the book, and is down to Earth, will die, leaving the loose cannon rookie to fight off the giant aliens.
