It suddenly occurred to me that I had quite a good amount of expendable time. I want to try making an RPG to occupy myself. Preferably something simple, where all I do is rename things, and plot instead of creating a million pixelated hells for every fight scenario. If nothing that simple is available, I'll deal with whatever is on hand. Can someone point in me in the right direction?
I played around with RPG Maker VX Ace somewhat recently, didn't get anything done though. All the software is torrentable so you shouldn't have much trouble getting started. @Linkermann is pretty knowledgeable on this subject so I'll tag him in.
Yeah, I used to make little games with one of the old RPG-makers. They are pretty fun and easy to use.
http://users.openzelda.net/ There are certainly more advanced engines, but this one is nice and simple to use.
Well. From what I gather RM XP and VX is quite popular, but most games I've seen are unoriginal as fuck. The fact that there are scripts for various systems you can easily insert into your game(s) contributes as well. Also note that VX's graphics are the shittiest of all. FF1 for the NES had better graphics.
There are a lot of tutorials and other info on the forums. The code is based of C as far as I can tell, and you can get scripts for nearly all the enemies on the forums. I was going to use it to make an RPG based on Evil Dead, but I lost interest after about a week or so.
Don't know, don't worry about it, I'm completely new to this sort of thing, so you'd end up wasting time. If you still want to help, I'd still appreciate it.
I expected nothing more. Well, I read the getting started but did not understand it exactly. How should I start?
Haha I remembered using a western RPG engine that made games which looked like an Ultima clone (with MSpaint art). You can even drive cars in that engine. I just put a naked girl in a mansion full of baddies, she had to kill everyone and drive away while running over many more baddies. Shit was fun for fucking around
Building the map is where I started/finished. Also the sprites. https://forum.encyclopediadramatica.se/threads/the-legend-of-ash.13356/
Oh god I remember RPG Maker. Using RPG Maker 2000 is one of the first things I ever did in animation and game design on computers, starting when I was 11. Good times.
I think people missed the point of RPG makers. you are supposed to create RPG's not some survival puzzle horror bullshit. Here's a good example of good RPG maker games: http://rpgmaker.net/games/272/ http://rpgmaker.net/games/407/
Hmm. I would have chosen Ara fell (for rm2k3) instead. The longing ribbon is good as well for a horror atmosphere game.
