That really worked out well for Guttenberg.

Today it's even worse since computers can take almost all of the skill out of making anything once somebody comes up with it. Look at YouTube. You can upload genius original content while somebody mirrors it and steals your revenue. Even if you DMCA it, you'll still have lost a portion of money. I consider that type of DMCA one of the few legitimate uses it has.

There are tons of other examples. A corporation that pours millions in R&D into a product only to have the schematics stolen so another company is pumping out the same product without having to invest in the research is bad news. Company A decides that they won't research anymore since it's not worth the money when they can wait for some other jackass spend all the money so they can profit off it.

Tesla sure as hell could have used strong protective patents.

Completely different situation under a completely different economy before the technology revolution that made IP necessary in the first place. IP developed in renaissance italy, they used patent law. You are such a stupid faggot Baya.

    what a fucking disappointment.
I was expecting "Mr. Jones" to stop growling and start biting, break out of his cuffs and do something actually entertaining. He doesn't look like someone the local authorities were really equipped to handle.

OTOH, he does look like a pirate.

So what you're telling me is that the company that "steals" the idea can produce the idea at a much lesser cost because they don't have to make up the losses incurred during the R&D phase thus lowering the overall cost to consumers? That sounds fucking dreadful.

I'll tell you what would happen. The inventors would be hired by the companies or their competitors. At they very least they'd be subcontracted. If a brain drain occurs then inventors will become that much more valuable. If a company is so fucking incompetent that they can't even protect their own secrets then they deserve to go out of business.

If today's technology and economy is what made IP necessary then why was it made five centuries ago in a completely different economic situation?

Guttenberg and the shelter of academics within the Church unified and proliferated the spread of knowledge and technology throughout Europe. This was the birth of the first world wide web, the only difference of today is an increase in it's speed.

I personally do *NOT* believe in intellectually property...but only because I personally have no need for it. For most people, because they're so creatively deficient, it becomes something of a necessity to scream, "MINE!" and plaster their name all over something in desperate, needy, wanton recognition and USI.

For those like myself...well, we generally have epic shit tons of creativity constantly flowing out of our asses like a river, to the point where there's simply no way that we can ever even realize the true creative potential of many of our ideas and forms all on our own. Which is why, for those like myself, having someone "steal" a particular idea or form is generally a good thing, especially if they can improve upon it in some way and make it even better.

The whole economy bullshit is entirely a moot point by the by, it's not really about who made what, but rather who found the best way to SELL IT and MARKET IT. The best example in that particular case is with perfumes and colognes in that YOU CANNOT PATENT A FRAGRANCE. Meaning anyone can openly rip off your smelly shit and produce their own knock-off version. But rather than HURT the market that's actually helped to IMPROVE IT, in that they've learned how to sell the ILLUSION of something "original" and "better" and at a significantly higher cost in a kind of "division by zero" form of self-important marketing. In other words, "Our product is better because it's more expensive." Which the vast majority of the human population buys into without so much as a second thought. If it's expensive...it *MUST* be really good!

Human beings are generally stupid by nature and full of potential means of exploitation, as such it is MARKETING more than the actual product which actually holds any particular relevance as far as MAKING MONEY. Intellectual property, on the whole, is largely a moot fucking point.

Indeed, people should realize that cheap does not mean bad or lower quality than the marketed shit that the corporations put on the media.
