Idk what to think. I think people should get money from their IP, but we need new laws to deal with the reality of additive manufacturing.

Perhaps we need a way out of the law. The problem is that the philosophies, or sciences, melded; thus merging the practical philosophies (politics, morality, ethics, psychology, sociology, and of course law) into the theoretical philosophies (mathematics, physics, chemistry) thereby forcing intellectual property from a status of a legal fiction to that of a concrete, or theoretical, reality.

The effects have been disastrous, as can be seen in the insane ramblings of men with both low intellect and character such as Popper or Dawkins, and there is sadly no way to separate law from the realm of theory.

Thus we should steer the law towards strictly positive aspects of reality and shift our real economy from the law to solely societal structures based on free association and enforced by a form of moral writ amplified by the Eye of God - ie the internet.

What about how people like Aisha Mustafa deserving every penny for their revolutionary invention? What about an unknown and struggling writer who produces a masterpiece that is stolen by a more popular writer? There needs to be a means of distributing and enforcing justice, at least for a limited period of time.

No, my point is most people want credit for their work. This is true of everything, God is even this way. While some will create regardless, most will not in our current economic system. I imagine it would be different in a post-scarcity economic system where people compete for fame, but in such a system, one would still want to prove they were THE FIRST. Humans want credit for their work and that will never change. We are approaching a post-scarcity system with additive manufacturing, but we are still at least 40 or so years away from a post-scarcity world system in terms of the basics like food, water, shelter, etc. We are still a while before everyone gets a BMW.

From a practical point of view, so-called intellectual property rights impede economic prosperity and technological advancement. From a philosophical point of view, so-called intellectual property rights don't exist and if they do then everybody who knows something owns that something which makes no sense if you're wanting to monopolise it.

We've all seen its effects first hand. The current state of the movie, videogame and music industries is testament to the economic and intellectual depravity all this de facto protectionism leads to. Will inventors suffer? Of course not. The great inventors during the Renaissance never had trouble finding funds despite living in one of the most violent periods in Human history.

Of course, it is my opinion that every inventor should be a businessman. Where would we be now if Tesla hadn't been a misguided idealist? God only knows. Of course, that all depends on whether there exists a nation in this world of ours that would allow liberty to flourish, instead of seeing it as some sort of threat to be extinguished. Humanity is waiting for a liberator that may never come. There's a burning desire in the air. A desire to be free. I've sensed it all over the world. Liberators do not exist. The people will liberate themselves.

No but living in another nation which doesn't give a shit about the laws of the nation whose citizen you're plagiarising does. Plus it's not like we don't have a global communication system that can efficiently send information back and forth in such a way that policing it would be nigh impossible.

Small companies couldn't compete against larger ones without laws protecting intellectual property, especially in the hard sciences and technology fields. This goes all the way back to when individual inventors had to go up against trade guilds. Patents only last 20 years anyway (at least in the U.S.), after that any technology produced is public domain. Copyright laws are the ridiculous evil twin though, lasting an insane amount of time after the death of the last living author. Disney really doesn't want Mickey to be public domain.
