Bill Nye vs Ken Ham debate

All l got to say is, when a religion is used to take the mickey, its the christian religion. Islam is using violence, and Jews the fear of anti-semitism, perhaps we should level the playing field.

Nye could've done better, but was okay. He did ramble a bit and say somethings that had no place in the debate, but so did Ham.

I can't believe his Boeing 747 joke flopped.

It really disappointed me Bill didn't respond to this. It's known that different dating techniques are only accurate for certain time periods. carbon dating is only around 10-20k years, iirc. It wouldn't have been difficult at all to point that out that Ham's use of different dating methods to find different dates stems from a misapplication of the dating methods.

It was pretty disappointing Bill just said, "the evidence is overwhelming," for the radioactive dating methods he mentioned. He should have been prepared to cite some studies on it at least.

Bill actually made a good point I had not considered regarding this. If Noah had built the ship and the number of kinds of animals that Bill and Ham estimated would've been on it, the rate at which new species would develop would be ridiculous. of course, Ham could just say, "oh, god could've just had a really high rate of species development and then slowed it down to what we see today," but a form of that argument works for pretty much anything.

I don't think the scientists he called on were in any fields that would make them experts on the subject - developing the MRI machine doesn't require knowledge of the evidence for evolution - but I also both Bill and Ham knew that Ham wasn't trying to say, "oh, these scientists believe in creationism, so creationism is right," but that Ham was addressing Bill's stance (from what he's said prior to the debate) that not teaching evolution in school would lead to people not prepared to progress in science.

I can confirm this. There were a lot of creationists talking about how Ham dominated Nye around here.
